Centre Pasteur (CPC)  currently offers substantial discounts, including 50% off for children under 14 and undergraduate students , as well as reduced rates for patients hospitalised in public facilities.

Centre Pasteur\u2019s discounts align with the center\u2019s motto \u201cExcellence in biology accessible to all\u201d \u00a0and promote equity by targeting: \u00a0Elderly and public sector workers (30% off) \u2014 Support for age-related or occupational health needs. A personnel from the hematology service at the Yaounde Central Hospital reveals \u00a0that an overwhelming 82.5% of mortality are patients suffering from the sickle cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A benefactor of the discount, Dzeuzang Emlienne, talked to Ndode\u2019s News Blog accuses ignorance and lack of proper orientation on the necessity of conducting a hemoglobin electrophoresis with their partner before marriage. HbAA (Normal hemoglobin): You are sickle cell free (no sickle cell gene at all).Consequently , You have two normal \u201cA\u201d genes (one from each parent). Hence, no risk of passing on the sickle cell gene to your children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another possibility is HbAS (Sickle cell trait): You are a carrier (also called sickle cell trait). You have one normal \u201cA\u201d gene and one sickle \u201cS\u201d gene, meaning you are generally healthy and do not have sickle cell disease. Under extreme conditions (e.g severe dehydration, high altitude, intense exercise without hydration), you might experience mild issues like blood in urine or rare complications, but most carriers live normal lives.You can pass the \u201cS\u201d gene to your children (50% chance per child).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 On the otherhand, there is HbSS (Sickle cell anemia): You have sickle cell disease (not free, not just a carrier).It means you inherited two \u201cS\u201d genes, one from each parent. Glaring symptoms are that red blood cells can become sickle-shaped, leading to pain crises, anemia, infections, organ damage, and other serious complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr MBOUYAP underscores that \u201cBlood group testing is critical for safe blood transfusions and pregnancy monitoring. She adds that it is imperative to have more people getting tested proactively rather than reactively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
